Helge Rønning (born 1943) is Professor in the Department of Media and Communications, University of Oslo. and Researcher at CMI, Bergen.  He has published books and numerous articles on literary, social, political, media and cultural issues in Scandinavian, European, African and American journals and newspapers. He has published and contributed to a great number of books in Scandinavia and internationally. He has done research and lived in Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Mozambique. His research interests cover a wide area from Ibsen's works, to freedom of speech and copyright issues. He has been very active in Norwegian public life and served on a number of public bodies including the Government Freedom of Expression Commision.  He heads the research project China's Aid, China's Voice.
