Uncertainty quantification

Uncertainty quantification has emerged as a critical focus in computational engineering, driven by the unprecedented complexity inherent in engineering systems. This complexity necessitates a fundamental understanding and management of uncertainties to enhance the reliability and robustness of engineering models. The UQ research programme at GCEC is set at the interface between continuum mechanics, numerical methods, statistics, and high-performance computing. Our research program actively engages in a diverse array of applications such as structural analysis, biomechanics, geomechanics, and disaster risk reduction.

Within this topic, our current research activities include:

  1. Structural and system reliablity analysis
  2. Stochastic finite elements
  3. Inverse problems from structural responses
  4. Bayesian approach and physics-informed neural networks
