Short Description

The aims of this course are: to develop the linguistic skills gained in previous study of Early Gaelic language; to introduce new texts, problems, and skills, such as working on texts not edited for student readers, and use of dictionaries and other tools; to broaden and extend familiarity with the range and style of Early Gaelic texts; to increase awareness of the language changes from Old to Middle Irish.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of the course, the student should be able: to demonstrate a good knowledge of the texts studied, including their literary significance; to translate passages of Early Gaelic and comment on grammatical matters; to apply knowledge of Early Gaelic to unseen passages.
