Walk and cycle

It would take around one hour to walk between the two sites. 

The best route for cycling is shown on the map above and takes around 20 minutes.

The Clyde Tunnel offers a segregated route for road users and pedestrians/cyclists across the Clyde. The pedestrian and cycle route is accessed through a secured buzzer system and has CCTV and
separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists in each direction. It takes approximately 15 minutes to walk and 4 minutes by bike. The northbound entrance is via Burghead Place and the southbound entrance via Balshagray Crescent.

The University provides bicycle parking facilities, showers and repair stations.

There are cycle stands close to the entrance of the Teaching and Learning Centre at the QEUH. 

There are two OVObike stations at Gilmorehill campus, one at the QEUH and one close to Govan subway. The University offers free memberships to the Glasgow OVObike hire scheme with bikes available to rent 24/7.

Staff members can also use the University e-bike fleet for business travel.

Travel by public transport

Subway

The Subway is one of the easiest ways to get round the city.
The nearest subway stations to Gilmorehill campus are Hillhead (5 minute walk), Kelvinhall (10 minute walk) and Kelvinbridge (10 minute walk). The closest station to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is Govan, approximately 1.5 miles from the site (30 minute walk). There is a OVObike stand very close to Govan Station, and buses leaving from there frequently.

Bus

Direct and frequent bus services from the campus South Gate at Dumbarton Road to QEUH. Other bus services leave from Partick, Byres Road or from Govan Subway station.

The City Centre is also well connected by direct and frequent bus services to the QEUH through Fastlink, a dedicated bus lane to transport passengers from Glasgow Central and Queen Street
station to QEUH.

Train

The closest train station to the QEUH is Cardonald, approximately 1mile from the site (20 min walk). The nearest train station to the Gilmorehill campus is Partick (15 minutes walk).
To take the train from Partick to Cardonald would require one change at Central Station.

Travel by car

Parking within the University’s main campuses is managed, bookable or for permit holders only

Parking near the Gilmorehill campus can be difficult. We encourage staff, students and visitors to look  for alternative travel modes.

Parking can also be challenging at QEUH, so please consider active and sustainable modes if possible. Parking is available for staff, patients and visitors. More information on parking is available from Parking - NHSGGC.

In relation to NHS sites, a visitor relates to someone visiting an inpatient or attending with an outpatient for a hospital appointment.

Park and ride is available at the Subway stations Bridge Street, Kelvinbridge and Shields Road during the Subway’s opening hours. Regular users can buy money saving car park season tickets.

Using a Car Club is another way to get to meetings without having to bring your own car to the University.
