Library Friends prepare for 40th

Friends of Glasgow University Library prepare for 40th anniversary and plan a history of Library's 500 years.

In just over a year`s time the Friends of Glasgow University Library  www.gla.ac.uk/fgul  will start celebrating the 40th Anniversary Year of their support of the Library and its development and many activities, writes Chairman Graeme Smith

A number of special events will be planned for 2015/16 including the writing and publication of the illustrated History of Glasgow University Library. This will be the first–ever such publication in the Library`s own 500 years. The editorial team includes Dr Peter Davies, Helen Durndell, Lesley Richmond, Dr Stephen Rawles, Professor Nigel Thorp, Julie Gardham, Sarah Hepworth, Moira Rankin and Peter Hoare, one of the society`s founders who is also the leading authority on the history of libraries in Britain & Ireland. 

The book is being planned to be on sale by November 2015.

Dr Peter Davies, FGUL Honorary Secretary, said: "Our proposed production schedule is as follows:

Suggested deadline to finalize selection of illustrations in consultation with contributors: 15th June 2015

Suggested deadline for contributors' submissions for editing in accordance with MHRA style: 30th June 2015

Suggested deadline to submit finalized package to printers: 1st September 2015

Production of print copy: end of  October 2015 so sales may benefit from the Christmas/New Year book-buying  period."
