Library Friends' new Honorary President

The Chancellor, Sir Kenneth Calman, is to be the new Honorary President of the Friends of Glasgow University Library.

The Chancellor, Sir Kenneth Calman, is to be the new Honorary President of the Friends of Glasgow University Library.

FGUL announced that Sir Kenneth had kindly accepted the post, in succession to the late David M Walker, Regius Professor of Scots Law. Sir Kenneth was one of the founder members of the Friends 40 years ago, and is an active author and is Deputy Chair of the British Library.

The Friends Chairman, Graeme Smith, said: “We are very pleased to have Sir Kenneth`s endorsement and he has already expressed his support for the publication of The History of Glasgow History Library  as part of the the society`s 40th Anniversary next year.”

Sir Kenneth was elected Chancellor of the University in 2006. He is a graduate who was appointed to the Cancer Research Chair of Oncology in 1974 and became Professor and Dean of Postgraduate Medical Education in 1984. He was awarded an honorary DSc in 1996.
