Senior members of the University will be undertaking a high-profile trip to China this month to raise the University's profile and to launch a new series of events.

Senior members of the University will be undertaking a high-profile trip to China this month, the purpose of which is two-fold. Firstly, to heighten the profile of the University in the lead-up to the signing of the Nankai Partnership agreement. To this end, the Principal will deliver the second lecture in the ‘University of Glasgow Lecture Series’ in Tianjin on Thursday 20 March, entitled ‘After the Financial Crisis: the Need for Co-operation in the World Economy’.  Following his lecture, the Principal will be honoured with the title ‘Guest Professor’ of Nankai University.

Secondly, the University will launch its new event series, ‘The Adam Smith Business School Careers Seminars’, with events in both Beijing (at the Hilton Wangfujing on Friday 21 March) and Shanghai (at the Hilton Shanghai on Monday 24 March). The aim of these events is to help recently returned Chinese alumni navigate the jobs market by providing them with advice, networking opportunities and practical tips from selected Career experts.  Each event will have a panel of experts consisting of:

  • Chair - Professor Jim Love, Head of the ASBS
  • Linda Murdoch from UoG Careers Department
  • an invited Chinese HR / Graduate Employment specialist
  • an older, more experienced UoG alumnus who will outline their career path to date.

The Principal will host the Beijing ASBSCS event, while Professor Anne Anderson will host the Shanghai event, with Professor Love chairing the panel discussions at both events. Additionally, we will have up to 10 older alumni coming along to each event to act as networkers, share their stories and offer younger alumni the benefit of their experience.

The UoG delegation will also be meeting with partner institutions throughout the week-long visit, including industrial, business and media contacts, as well as the Confucius Institute in Beijing.
