The Glasgow Science Festival is in full swing and this Sunday, 15th June, is ‘Science Sunday’ the University’s flagship event for all the family.

The Glasgow Science Festival is in full swing and this Sunday, 15th June, is ‘Science Sunday’ the University’s flagship event for all the family. Our staff and students have created a variety of shows, workshops and hands-on activities for you and your family to enjoy. All brought to you by the Glasgow Science Festival team and specially invited guests.

Starting at 10am and running until 4pm there are a range of activities guaranteed to keep everyone busy and entertained, including:‌

Sci Fest poster 2014 300Zoofest: Animal Athletes – the Hunterian Zoology museum is having a special Sunday opening. Running, swimming, flying, jumping – this is your chance to find out about animal athletes! There will also be the chance to get under the skin of the rarely seen specimens from the store rooms of the Zoology museum in a life drawing class with scientist Mhairi and artist Gary. All activities are free and drop-in.  11am – 3pm, Hunterian Zoology Museum, Graham Kerr Building.

Colder than Scotland? - If you think icy winter weather is as cold as it gets then you’re in for a shock! Physicist Steven Thomson takes us on a tour of the temperature scale to reveal the coldest things in the universe.  This drop-in event lasts 30 mins and is taking place at 12noon, 1pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm in the Wolfson Medical Building.

The Quantum Circus - The Quantum Circus follows the journey of a clown, baffled by the strange phenomena around him and a physicist who tries to bring him out of his confusion. This popular comical show explores quantum mechanics. The show lasts one hour and is taking place at 12noon and 2pm in the Graham Kerr Building. The event is free but booking is required, visit the   Science Festival website.

Mapping Glasgow’s Hogwarts - The University of Glasgow’s beautiful gothic architecture has earned it the unofficial title of 'Hogwarts for Muggles'. Uncover the secrets of the quadrangles’ underlying geology and tunnels with this outdoor mapping workshop for witches and wizards of all ages. This event is free and drop-in from 12noon to 4pm in the Hunterian Museum.

Changing voices - Ever wondered why accents change over time?  Would you like to see your own tongue movements during speech, or hear your voice change into someone else’s?  Join researchers at the University of Glasgow’s phonetics laboratory for hands-on workshops exploring speech and voice.
