University janitor wins Tae Kwon Do bronze

One of the University's janitorial team has won a bronze medal in an international Tae Kwon Do event.

One of the University's janitorial team has won a bronze medal in an international Tae Kwon Do event.‌

47 year-old David Morgan took part in the Chang Ung Competition held at the Meadowbank sports centre in Edinburgh at the end of last year. David Morgan, janitor, Tae Kwon Do winnerDavid's success came in the "patterns" section of the competition.  Patterns comprise some of the complex body moves associated with the sport.

David is a second degree black belt and hails from Bishopbriggs. He is also a registered instructor, spending evenings and weekends teaching youngsters and adults in Renfrew and Linwood. 

Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art. It combines combat and self-defence techniques with sport and exercise. Gyeorugi, a type of sparring, has been an Olympic event since 2000. Taekwondo was developed by a variety of Korean masters during the 1940s as partial combination of taekkyeon, Okinawan karate and other traditions.

Paul Dragsnes, the University's Assistant Bedellus, said: "It’s pleasing and excellent to see  our team members achieving these successes outwith their place of work."
