Excitement and interest is building in the run up to the University of Glasgow's first TEDx conference, due to be held on Saturday 15 March. It is being led by seven of our international students. The official conference title is TEDxUniversityofGlasgow.

TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a global set of conferences owned by the private non-profit Sapling Foundation, under the slogan "ideas worth spreading". TED was founded in 1984 as a one-off event. The annual conference began in 1990, in Monterey, California. TED's early emphasis was technology and design, consistent with its origins in California's Silicon Valley.

TEDxUniversityofGlasgow, under the theme of "connectivity", will welcome University of Glasgow colleagues to the stage as well as speakers from further afield. The event will focus on connecting the best stories, experiences and ideas to share them with the world. The TEDxUniversityofGlasgow team 'intends to build an eye-opening platform and a network of inspiring ideas to explore undiscovered talents and encourage worldwide viewers to follow their dreams!

TEDx team photo Feb 2014The TEDx University of Glasgow team hosted a launch party on 5 February at the Hilton Grosvenor Hotel. With more than 450 guests including staff and students. It gave people a chance to sample what to look forward to at the 'main event' next month. The event included two speakers from the University of Glasgow, student Ben Semple and Public Engagement Officer Jamie Gallagher as well as University of Edinburgh student, Becky Irving. It was a fantastic night of inspiring talks, salsa, music, science demonstrations, magic & more.

The Communications team interviewed the team last week so we look forward to sharing these with you over the coming weeks.

The University is extremely proud of our seven entrepreneurial students behind the conference and their volunteers and brand ambassadors. They are great ambassadors for the university and demonstrate what our students can achieve outside their academic life.
