VSER Scheme – March update

Published: 28 March 2011

Updated information on the current VSER scheme, which remains open

The current VSER scheme was launched in January and staff who applied for the scheme by the end of last month are being notified of the outcome of their application.  If you have been offered the opportunity to leave under the VSER scheme and would like further information on your pension options, including the possibility of using some of your VS Lump sum to purchase additional retirement benefits, please contact the Pensions section on Extension 2832.

At the February meeting, Court agreed that the unchanged VSER scheme would continue to remain open to new applications and staff who apply by 21 April will receive a response by 20 May.

You may know that there is currently consultation about the academic shape of some areas, but that does not prevent anyone from exploring their VSER options, particularly in areas which are not involved in the consultation.

Any initial expressions of interest are confidential: once you have received information of your potential payments, you may decline to take matters further, or ask for formal consideration of your case. If you are offered VSER you will have a ten day window to consider your position, but you are under no obligation to accept the offer.

You can also contact your HR Manager in confidence if you would like information on the financial package which would be available to you before deciding whether to apply.
