University of Glasgow:  Hunterian bequest 1807;  Hunterian Museum bookplate and book label on front pastedown, with former shelfmark “X.1.4”.
Binding: 16th-century blind-tooled pigskin over partially bevelled wooden boards.  Each cover has a central panel formed by fillets, within which a repeated vine-like tool with tendrils (Rautengerank) forms characteristic pointed oval shapes, each filled with a foliate tool;  the panel is set within two frames - the inner frame consists of a foliate(?) roll within triple fillets, and the outer frame is undecorated;  spine compartments decorated with Rautengerank tool;  evidence of two clasps (both now lost);  manuscript title on fore-edge and on lower edge of text block;  18th-century pastedowns, free endpapers and flyleaves, which have watermark arms of Amsterdam and countermark ‘B DUMAS || FIN || PERIGORD || 1742’.   Size: 319 x 220 mm.

Annotations: Annotation on a1r “L. Valla natus Romae 1417”.
Decoration: On a1v a six-line initial ‘L’ is supplied in pink;  the initial is set on a square gold ground, the latter decorated with punch-dotting and a geometrical pattern and highlighted with a faceted border in blue, from which foliate decoration in green, pink, blue and gold extends into the outer and upper margins.
