Binding: 19th-century green straight-grained goatskin decorated with a single gold fillet, a small gold dot at each corner;  gold-tooled spine;  khaki-coloured endpapers;  gilt-edged leaves;  brown silk bookmark.   Size:  227 x 164 mm.
Leaf size: 218 x 153 mm.
Annotations: Occasional underlining and early marginal annotations (mainly extracting keywords) - heavily washed;  19th-century price “£2-2-0” in pencil on verso of front free endpaper;  19th-century note on front flyleaf referring to “the Cracherode copy of this work” and with a reference to William Beloe’s 'Anecdotes of literature and scarce books';  note on a piece of paper loosely inserted referring to other editions in the 'Bibliotheca Spenceriana'.

Imperfections: Wanting the blank leaves f6 (f. 54) and k8 (f. 86);  evidence of a removed bookplate on front pastedown beneath the University of Glasgow Library bookplate.
