Johannes Heyne (fl. 1497):  inscription in red ink on v7v “Anno d[omi]ni M.cccc xcvij Ven[erabi]lis d[omi]n[u]s Joha[n]nes Heyne vicari[us] altaris s[an]c[t]or[um] pri[n]cipu[m] ap[osto]lor[um] Petri et pauli fidelissim[us] fautor et amic[us] n[oste]r sincerissim[us] q[ui] vltra vigi[n]ti a[n]nos i[n] abse[n]tia p[rae]p[osi]ti p[ro]curauit et rexit vice p[rae]p[osi]ti curia[m] mon[aste]rij n[ost]ri Medi[n]g[ensis] cu[m] m[u]lto labore ... Binding: Germany, 15th/16th-century blind-tooled calf over bevelled wooden boards;  covers decorated with  intersecting double fillets to form a centre panel bordered by two frames;  the panel is divided by a double fillet into lozenge and triangular-shaped compartments, which are decorated with a circular stamp of a long-necked bird (a swan?), two different circular stamps containing an eagle, and a small circular stamp containing a six-pointed star;  the inner frame is decorated with a circular stamp of a six-petalled flower within a shield and an oblong ‘ihesus’ stamp;  the outer frame (on the front cover only) has a single rectagular stamp of a lion(?) at its lower edge;  the spine is undecorated;  evidence of two clasps with catch plates on rear board, both now lost;  numerous pink-stained tabs in the Exempla (quires i-s);  binding repaired in the 19th century and given new endpapers (originals unrecorded), and a red leather title label added to spine.   Size: 360 × 240 mm.

Annotations: Occasional marginal annotations and nota marks in a 15th/16th-century hand in red ink;  the text of the missing bifolium t1.8 has been supplied in manuscript, in a 15th/16th-century hand, on two inserted leaves of paper, with text in two columns and with initials and capital strokes added in red;  frequent marginal numbering of passages of text and underlining in pencil in a 19th-century hand;  17th-century(?) number “2S”(?) on v8v.
Decoration: On D1r an eighteen-line initial “E” with foliate decoration in shades of mauve and white is set on a rectangular ground decorated with a foliate pattern in shades of green and black;  other initials throughout supplied in red or in red with reserved white, some with marginal flourishes;  paragraph marks and capital strokes supplied throughout in red;  a crown in red ink is set above the printer’s device on v7v and the two shields of the device are outlined in red.
Imperfections: Wanting bifolium t1.8.
