Provenance: Antoine Benjamin Morin d’Hérouville, Danish Consul General at Naples from 1766 to 1771:  lot 1166 at the Morin d’Hérouville sale (London:  Leigh & Sotheby, 1780).
William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  purchased by Hunter for £0.3.6 at the Morin d’Hérouville sale according to the annotated BL copy of the Morin d’Hérouville sale catalogue - shelfmark S.C.S. 13(3).
University of Glasgow:  Hunterian bequest, 1807;  Hunterian Museum bookplate on front pastedown, with former shelfmark “Ay.5.16”.
Binding: France, 18th-century red goatskin decorated with triple gold fillets, a small gold fleuron at each corner;  gold-tooled spine;  marbled endpapers;  gilt-edged leaves;  green silk bookmark.   Size:  218 x 147 mm.
Leaf size: 212 x 140 mm.
Annotations: Early manuscript catchwords in black ink on final verso of each quire, together with the catchword “LAUDÍVÍVS” on the final blank leaf, which suggests that this copy was once bound with a text by the 15th-century Italian writer, Laudivius Zacchia;  a few 15th/16th-century manuscript marginal notes, mainly extracting keywords, in red ink and one in black;  occasional “nota” marks in red;  a manicule in red on 4/3r (f.31r).
Decoration: Initials and paragraph marks supplied in red throughout;  most fable titles underlined in red;  some capital strokes supplied in red and many printed paragraph marks also have red strokes.
Imperfections: 1/1 (which is mounted) is damaged by worm holes, with loss of text on the verso.
