TurnerTurner was one of the giants of landscape painting, and as a young man focused on watercolour painting.

This exhibition centres on a recently rediscovered watercolour, a romantic view of the town Bacharach and Stahleck on the Rhine, which he visited in 1817.

It is accompanied by a small selection of topographical watercolours by Adam, Constable, Varley, Ruskin and Whistler and a group of prints by Claude, Sandby, Girtin and others, which demonstrate the evolution of Turner’s famous set of tonal landscape engravings, his Liber Studiorum (Book of Studies).
