Director appointed to Museums Galleries Scotland Board

Professor David Gaimster, Director of The Hunterian at the University of Glasgow, has been appointed to the Board of Museums Galleries Scotland.

Professor David Gaimster, Director of The Hunterian at the University of Glasgow, has been appointed to the Board of Museums Galleries Scotland. Professor Gaimster is an internationally recognised researcher, writer and lecturer on medieval to early modern European archaeology and material culture, cultural property and professional museum practice.

Before joining The Hunterian in the autumn of 2010, David's previous roles in the cultural sector included General Secretary and Chief Executive to the Society of Antiquaries of London and Senior Policy Advisor for Cultural Property, Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

He will take up his post on 4 February 2013. Museums Galleries Scotland is currently undergoing the transition to become the National Development Body for museums and galleries in Scotland in April 2013.

Professor Gaimster says: 'I'm delighted to be joining the new Board of Museums Galleries Scotland as it embarks on its re-launched role as the national development body for museums and galleries. My appointment is an opportunity to demonstrate and promote the role of university museums as innovators and catalysts in our sector.'
