Shiona McCallum
The Scottish lass now Londoner who’s making airwaves at BBC Radio 1
Degree: Law (2008)
In the first episode of Season 3 of Sound Tracks, hosts Rosie and Kezia recorded in the BBC Radio 1 News Beat studio with Shiona McCallum, reporter and UofG law grad.
Hear about Shiona’s role as a reporter covering stories across the UK, her experience of interviewing and investigative journalism, and broadcasting live on air on Radio 1. Shiona also has a deep interest and love for country music, which has led to her writing for magazines and presenting a new country music programme on Radio 2.
Working in Inverness, Scotland at Moray Firth Radio, Shiona got her first ‘on air’ miles under her belt and from there has worked in the Middle East, Scotland, and now in the capital city - London!
In order to work for Radio 1 ‘the pinnacle of youth broadcasting’… she moved down to London, taking a risk and leaving behind a secure job in Glasgow. She listened to the voice inside her that said ‘go for it’ and she’ll encourage you to listen too.
