Short Description

An academic year spent working abroad in a country in which Portuguese is spoken. One or more placements should make up a duration of between 8 and 9 months. All placements must be approved by the Residence Abroad Convener. Documentary evidence of successful completion of the placement(s) is required for progression into Junior Honours.

Course Aims

Spending an academic year working in a Portuguese-speaking country will

 

■ enable you to experience full immersion in the life and culture of the host country; 

■ provide you with work experience that will enhance your C. V.; 

■ help you to achieve a high degree of proficiency in spoken and written Portuguese; 

■ enable you to develop an in-depth understanding of the culture and society of the host country, as well as an enhanced awareness of intercultural issues in preparation for the work of the Honours years; 

■ develop your skills of independence and initiative within the framework of a working environment; 

■ enhance the value of your overall degree programme in preparation for future employment or further study.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

 

· fulfil the learning outcomes on the training agreement(s).

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit a completed Year Abroad Certificate of Work Placement.
