Biography
Sam Skipsey is employed on the GridPP project, as Project Manager (since 2021) and head of the Storage Group (since 2020).
Their academic background is in Quantum Optics, although they then pivoted to "e-Science/Grid Computing". They also have a strong interest in scientific computing, in the ethics and history of science, and in multidisciplinary approaches to academia. They are a co-lead of the University's Community of Practice for Decolonising the Curriculum, and the School's contact for decolonial practice (please do contact them if you are interested in this area).
They also have interests in sports prediction, rating, ranking and tournament scheduling, and in equity in sporting contexts - they sit on the following volunteer positions: Roller Derby World Cup Committee as a permanent member (since 2017), the Roller Derby Nations Committee as RDWC Liaison (since 2018, where they contributed a number of policy documents on equity and borderless and diasporic nations), and have advised the Women's Flat Track Roller derby Association (WFTDA) on ranking systems.

- Decolonial practice in Physics (and STEM) and physics pedagogy.
- Pedagogic practice in programming for STEM fields, including the use of Julia as a teaching tool.
