Carol gained her MA and PhD in English Literature at Glasgow. She has taught in the English Literature Department, Crichton College and the Department of Adult and Continuing Education, as well as presenting papers on Victorian Literature at conferences in Britain and America. After an interval in publishing she trained in the Education Faculty and taught English in the secondary sector where her interest in effective learning, inspired through her many teaching roles, was developed further.

She joined the Student Learning Service in 2004 and has particular interests in critical thinking, reading and writing; developing research skills; and gendered learning.
