- Summary of good practice arising from PSR
The University has for many years had a system of periodic review of subjects, formerly known as DPTLA, and they are one of the main ways by which the University assures itself of the quality of the student experience and of the provision delivered by departments. The system of subject reviews has been operating since 2002-03 and operates on a six-year cycle. University restructuring in 2010 has provided greater scope for adopting an approach to review that involves a further combining of Subjects within Schools where appropriate.
Each review is carried out by a Panel that includes a student representative and at least one academic external member. The Panel visits the Subject(s) under review and meets with groups of students and with groups of staff. The outcome of the review is a report which highlights the strengths and achievements of the Subject(s) and includes recommendations for changes aimed at strengthening provision and further enhancing the teaching provision and the student experience. The report is submitted to and considered by the Academic Standards Committee, which oversees the PSR process.
