Visa Registration: For New Students
Welcome, World Changer!
We're so glad you're here. Before you become an official University of Glasgow student, you must complete Visa Registration.
The University is required to check the immigration status for all students who are not nationals of the UK or Ireland, including home fee payers and those who do not require a Student Visa.

Visa Registration Dates
If you are starting your UofG programme at the beginning of the 2025-26 academic year, Visa Registration opens on Tuesday 9th September.
How to Complete Visa Registration
Let's get started on your Visa Registration journey! Identify yourself below and ensure you complete the necessary steps to becoming an official University of Glasgow student.
+++
I am travelling to the UK as a visitor and studying at the University for one semester
This includes ‘non-visa nationals’ who were able to enter the UK using the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
- Upload a copy of your passport during Academic Registration.
- Book an appointment to attend Visa Registration and bring your passport, a copy of your flight information (showing entry to the UK - this can be on your phone or on a paper ticket) and a note of your UK address. You may or may not receive an entry stamp when you enter the UK.
---
+++
I applied for my visa outside the UK and it has been issued as an e-Visa
- Upload a copy of your passport during Academic Registration.
- View your Visa status and get a Share Code. If you are asked for the reason for providing the share code, select Something Else or Another Reason. Your share code should begin with the letter S and have 9 characters.
- Submit your Share Code to us using our share code form in the UofG Helpdesk (log in with your GUID and password to access).
- Once you have submitted your Share Code, book an appointment to attend Visa Registration and bring:
- Your passport
- Your share code (in case we need to check it again)
- A copy of your flight details (e.g. boarding pass, flight itinerary or e-ticket). This can be on your phone/device or on paper.
- A note of your UK address (this can be on your phone/device or on paper)
Make sure your Visa Registration Appointment is at least one working day after you provide us with your Share Code to allow sufficient time to update your Student Record.
Important notice for Student Visa applicants travelling to the UK
Do not attempt to travel to the UK before your visa has been fully issued, and do not use the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) in place of a Student Visa. This will not allow you to study your programme.
Additionally, after your visa is issued, ensure you only travel to the UK on or after the visa start date. Travelling before your visa is approved and valid may cause you to be denied boarding onto your flight, or refused entry to the UK.

I completed my previous course at the UofG (including pre-sessional) on a Student Visa, and I am now progressing onto a new course also at UofG

- Book an appointment to attend Visa Registration and bring a paper copy of the first two pages of your UKVI application form or Document Checklist showing the date you submitted your Visa Application. If you have already received your eVisa, please also get a share code and upload it to our form on the UofG Helpdesk. If you have not yet recieved your new visa, you can still commence onto your new programme, but you must provide us with your new share code as soon as your visa is approved.
Ensure that you apply for your new visa before the current visa expires, or no later than 6 weeks after the start date of your new programme; whichever is the earlier date.

I already live in the UK and have a non-Student Visa immigration status, but none of the above apply to me
Important note for Graduate Route Visa Holders: this visa type does not permit study. Please ensure you apply for a Student Visa using your CAS in plenty of time before your course starts, as you will not be able to start studying until you have your Student Visa.
Other non-Student Visa immigration status:
- Upload a copy of your passport/travel document during Academic Registration.
- If you are an asylum seeker, upload a copy of your ARC.
- If you are refugee or have another type of protected status, upload any letter from the Home Office showing this. You will also need to get a share code and provide it to our form on the UofG Helpdesk.
- Book an appointment to attend Visa Registration, and bring your original passport/travel document and immigration documents. Please note that you must bring the originals and not copies. This is also required for home students, even if you already submitted copies of these documents when you applied to the University.

- If you are a home student, please check here how to get your Campus Card. If you are an international student with UK/Irish nationality, please attend Visa Registration with your passport to pick up your Campus Card. You do not need an appointment.
