If you graduate from the University for the first time it is a statutory requirement that you enrol as a member of the General Council of the University and pay the General Council Registration Fee. This requirement is set out in Regulation XII "Graduation and General Council Membership" of the "University Fees and General Information for Students" section of the University Calendar.
The General Council registration fee is £60 and it must be paid when you are enrolling to graduate, whether you intend to graduate in person or "in absentia". This should be paid in MyCampus by debit or credit card.
If you already hold a University of Glasgow degree you will already be a member of the General Council and do not need to pay a further fee. The fee provides for life membership of the General Council of the University.
Membership is compulsory - the General Council is a statutory body and plays a part in the government of the University. All members are entitled to take part in meetings of the General Council, which are held twice a year. In addition, all members receive the graduate magazine "Avenue" which is issued twice a year.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you complete graduation enrolment. If you do not enrol you cannot graduate.
Before enrolling to graduate please ensure that your name is shown correctly on MyCampus as this is exactly how it will be shown on your degree parchment. It is also very important to make sure that all contact information in your student record is correct.
If you do not wish to attend the ceremony you can graduate in-absentia and your degree parchment will be posted to you. If you enrol to attend your graduation ceremony and fail to attend, your graduation will be treated as in-absentia and your degree parchment will be posted to your home address.
Debts/Return of University property
If you have a debt to the University you will not be allowed to enrol for graduation or graduate. You should ensure that you have paid all outstanding debts (including tuition fees, bench fees, accommodation charges, library fines) before you enrol. You must also ensure you have returned all library books and any other University property before you graduate.
Guests and Guest Tickets
Each graduand will receive tickets for two guests to attend the ceremony. You may apply for additional tickets when you complete enrolment. There is no guarantee that extra tickets will be available and arrangements made on the assumption that extra tickets will be allocated are entered into at the students/guests own risk. The University does not accept liability for any actual or alleged loss that may result in the event that extra tickets are unavailable.
Different terms may apply to UGS and Dumfries Campus.
