Media Production has the expertise and infrastructure to produce, high quality video and audio material for teaching, research or promotion.

Live Outside Broadcast production work
We have an outside broadcast system consisting of 4 Cameras, vision mixer and sound desk. We record the University's summer and winter Graduations, public events such as the Kilbrandon Lecture and PBL sessions.

Filming (location and studio)
Media Production crews shoot on digital tape stock using Panasonic AJD 900 DVCPRO broadcast camcorders. Audio recording can be made using radio transmitter microphone systems, Gun and handheld microphones. We have a fully functional soundproofed television studio comprising of three Hitachi Z1 DA camera heads on Vinton studio tripods, an extensive lighting grid and autocue. The studio Gallery equipment includes an 8 channel component vision mixer, 8 channel sound mixer, Caption Generator and the capability of recording onto Betacam SP or DVCPRO format as required. These excellent facilities are regularly hired by the broadcasting industry.

Editing (non-linear and online)
Media Production has 4 non-linear editing systems, 2 x AVID Media Composer Xpress and 2 Avid DV Express Pro, for postproduction and training work. Avid is a proven and market leader in high quality non-linear editing systems. The Avid MC Xpress is a high-end broadcast editing system providing lossless broadcast quality non-linear editing. It has real time effects, sophisticated multi-layered titling and eight channels of audio with equalisation. Edit 1 and 2 are staffed by in-house ex-broadcast professional editors Edit 3 and 4 are available for use by University staff and students with or without an editor. We also have a broadcast standard DVCPRO/SP Betacam edit suite with digital video effects.

Sound Production
Audio recordings can be made in our studio, or on location, and can comprise of single or multiple microphone set-ups. The recordings can be captured onto Digital Audio Tape, edited on Pro-Tools and distributed on CD, audiocassette, or Mini Disk as required.
