Purchasing classroom voting systems (EVS)

Supply of Electronic Voting Systems.

In July 2008 the University put the supply of Electronic Voting Technology out to tender. The winning company was Banxia Software. Prices for the hardware and software and minimum levels of support for Electronic Voting Technology were agreed, with Banxia offering the best solution both in terms of technology and their support for it. Banxia have been offering products in this area for some time and have a great deal of experience of working in partnership with higher education.

The system that Banxia supply is from a company called Interwrite Learning. The handsets and receivers are very easy to use and the software integrates with PowerPoint and is available for Windows, MacOS and Linux. 2,500 handsets were purchased centrally and are distributed at a variety of locations around the campus. In last year's teaching room upgrades, the software to drive the technology was installed on the computers in the majority of centrally booked teaching rooms.

It is important that any additional purchases of EVS equipment should be of the same type as this in order to ensure compatibility (for example a department may wish from time to time to augment their provision with the central provision), and also bought from the same company, Banxia, in order to meet our responsibilities as a purchaser (see the Purchasing Office website, and in particular approved suppliers).
