Performance and Development Review

Message from Professor Andrea Nolan, Senior Vice Principal

Colleagues

The University values staff achievements and aspirations and recognises that your commitment, work and innovation are fundamental to the realisation of the University’s ambition as outlined in Glasgow 2020 - a global vision, building on its position as one of the world’s great broad-based research-intensive universities.

Performance and Development Review (P&DR) is essential in assisting each individual to contribute to the delivery of University’s goals; it is the fundamental link, and for this reason all staff are required to participate in the process on an annual basis.  P&DR helps each individual to understand their role within the University.  It gives each of us the opportunity to reflect on what we’ve achieved over the past year, receive feedback on our contribution, agree objectives for the coming year, and identify any training and development needs with our line manager.

Established University/College/School/Research Institute/Service objectives which flow from the University Strategy should be central to the objective setting process at an individual level for the forthcoming year, approved through the line management structure.

Following review and feedback from last year’s process, the P&DR documentation has been streamlined with the integration of the self-assessment and summary review sections of the forms for all staff.  There are 5 forms covering the different categories and grades of staff:-

* Note:- Support staff is inclusive of the Management, Professional & Administrative,  Technical & Related and Operational Job Families.

The PDR guidance notes have been amended to reflect these changes to ensure they clearly outline the process to be followed by reviewers and reviewees.

This year’s Performance and Development Review round will begin on the 1st July and should be completed by the end of September.  I urge you to make the most of this opportunity to review your achievements during the past year and plan for the year ahead.

In the meantime, if you have any specific questions regarding the process or the documentation please email direct to humanresources@glasgow.ac.uk.

Kind regards

Andrea
