Athena SWAN Self Assessment Team

As part of the application process the University is required to put together a Self Assessment Team.  The function of the team is to oversee the process, ensuring that the information gathered is relevant and accurate.

The University put together its Athena SWAN Self Assessment Team to oversee the University's Bronze Award application

The self-assessment team includes both men and women. It includes members with:

  • Personal experience of balancing home/caring responsibilities and work, part-time or flexible working, or career breaks
  • From a dual career family (the partner does not have to be from a STEMM background)
  • With recent experience of the University recruitment and/or promotion process
  • At different stages on the career ladder, particularly early and mid-career
  • With departmental management responsibilities or university responsibilities for staff development or equal opportunities.
  • With experience of similar exercises

The Self Assessment Team looked at the application form provided by Athena SWAN.  They then asked the Unviersity to consider the specific data required for the application and to analyse the impact on men and women in STEMM and Non-STEMM areas.  The data gathered has highlighted areas where the University should consider focussing attention and this has informed the University's Action Plan.
