Cover of volume 30 of the Scottish Business and Industrial History journal.The Business Archives Council of Scotland publishes the Scottish Business and Industrial History journal, which contains articles by professional historians and independent scholars, covering a wide range of topics on Scotland's industrial past.

The journal formerly known as Scottish Industrial History has been published by the Business Archives Council of Scotland since 1977 and is devoted to the dissemination of original historical research into all periods and facets of Scotland's industrial and commercial past. The journal is provided as part of the annual subscription to the Business Archives Council of Scotland, and as well as containing scholarly articles, it also reports on the Council's activities and on developments concerning Scotland's business and industrial archives.

The latest edition of the journal volume 30 was published in November 2015 and is a full, double-blind refereed academic journal.

Scottish Industrial History Volume 18 front coverIn 2016 the executive committee organised for the back catalogue of Scottish Industrial History and Scottish Business and Industrial History to be digitised. Open access to the volumes published before 2000 will be rolled out by the end of 2016 and you can click through to them from the volume index page. Access to volumes from 2000 onwards will be restricted to members.

For hard copies not all back issues are available for purchase. Volume Nos. 1.1, 1.2, 4, 5.2, and 18 are no longer available, and there are limited stocks of 9.1 and 9.2.  Hard copy volumes are priced at GBP10, including postage and packaing.  Please place order by emailing bacs@archives.gla.ac.uk or telephoning 0141 330 4159.

Contributing to Scottish Business and Industrial History

Scottish Business and Industrial History publishes articles on business, economic, financial, management or technological aspects and is also interested in any relevant debates and discussions. Related disciplinary or interdisciplinary studies are also welcome, and both empirical and theoretical approaches are acceptable.

The journal is normally published annually, and articles are subject to a double-blind refereeing process. Referees assist the Editors with advice on the suitability of articles for publication and produce recommendations for the Editors as to how submissions may be improved before publication. The Editors' decision in such matters is final.
