Biography

Peter Langhorne is Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow having been Professor of stroke care (2001-2020) within the Academic Section of Geriatric Medicine, Glasgow Royal Infirmary. He trained in geriatric and general medicine in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Peter was the coordinating editor of the Cochrane Stroke Group (2010-2020) and, together with colleagues in physiotherapy, OT and speech therapy has promoted evidence-based practice in stroke rehabilitation. He has authored and co-authored more than 300 scientific articles on cerebrovascular diseases and rehabilitation in journals such as Stroke, International Journal of Stroke, Lancet, Age and Ageing, and the British Medical Journal.

Research interests

His main research interests focus on the management of stroke (such as stroke unit care and early supported discharge services) and early recovery after stroke. More recently this has included service development in low and middle income countries.  This has led to the use of clinical trial implementation and systematic review methodologies.
