Young Alumnus scoops MOBO hat-trick

Singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé, the University of Glasgow Young Alumnus of the Year, has continued her run of awards success after picking up three prizes at the MOBO Awards in Liverpool on Saturday 3November.

Singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé, the University of Glasgow Young Alumnus of the Year for 2011-2012, has continued her run of awards success after picking up three prizes at the MOBO Awards in Liverpool on Saturday 3November.

The 25-year-old, who attended the University of Glasgow between 2006 and 2009 and received an intercalcated degree in neuroscience, was named Best Female and Best R&B and Soul Artist. Her debut LP, ‘Our Version of Events’, received the Best Album award.

The awards follow a year of chart success for singles including Heaven and Next to Me and a string of accolades including the Critic’s Choice prize at the Brit Awards, Best Solo Artist at the Q Awards and Harper’s Bazaar’s Woman of the Year.

Professor Anton Muscatelli, the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glasgow said: “Emeli has had an extraordinary and very well-deserved run of success this year, and everyone at the University is very proud and pleased for her. 

“She’s a tremendous ambassador for the University of Glasgow as Young Alumnus of the Year and we hope that 2013 turns out to be even more rewarding for her.”
