Chapel Choir broadcasts at Christmas and in the New Year

The renowned University of Glasgow Chapel Choir can be heard on Radio Scotland on Christmas morning and performing live in the New Year.

The renowned University of Glasgow Chapel Choir can be heard on Radio Scotland on Christmas morning and performing live in the New Year.

The choir led by Director of Chapel Music, James Grossmith and accompanied by pianist Professor John Butt will perform six well-loved carols - Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Oh Come all ye faithful, Once in Royal David’s City, The First Noel, O Little Town of Bethlehem and Silent Night - on Radio Scotland from 7-9am on Christmas Day.

In the New Year, the choir will also be performing on Radio Scotland on 19 January in a live broadcast from the City Halls as part of the Celtic Connections Festival.

A new CD entitled: ‘Spirits and Souls’, available in the University shop, captures the University of Glasgow Chapel Choir at their best. 

Glasgow University Chapel Choir comprises thirty-two auditioned singers formed from volunteers, choral exhibitioners and professional Lay Clerks. The principal function of the Chapel Choir is to sing at the main University Service which is held in the University Chapel at 11am on Sundays during term and at 6.30pm on the final Sunday of each month.

The Christmas Eve Nightwatch Service begins in the University Chapel at 11.30pm. The Service, with its blend of carols and readings, will provide a quiet, reflective move from Christmas Eve to Christmas morning. The Service is open to everyone and will broadcast live on the Chapel webcam.
