Mackintosh House at the University of Glasgow's Hunterian Art Gallery to re-open on Saturday 29 May

One of Glasgow's most popular visitor attractions, the Mackintosh House at the University of Glasgow, has been undergoing an extensive refurbishment and will re-open its doors on Saturday 29 May. Refurbishment includes recarpeting, repainting and the installation of a new interpretive display.

Further improvements allow access to the House with the removal of lunchtime closure. In order to fund all-day opening, a modest admission charge is being introduced. Income generated from the charge will also contribute to the maintenance costs of the University's unrivalled Mackintosh Collection.

Regular visitors to the House will be delighted to learn that an annual season ticket is available, allowing the ticket holder and two guests free entry throughout the year.

"Rediscovering Mackintosh: The Restoration of 78 Derngate", Mackintosh's last important commission, was for the remodelling of a small terraced house at 78 Derngate, Northampton. This is Mackintosh's only major work in England. The house has recently been restored and opened to the public by the 78 Derngate Northampton Trust, with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Northampton Borough Council, and other local bodies and individuals. A special exhibition in The Mackintosh House Gallery, organised by the Derngate Trust, describes how Mackintosh's remarkable interiors were investigated and recreated using the latest technology and traditional skills.
