What are the main features of the December 2025 pay spine restructure?

  • Grades 1 and 2: Scale Points 9 and 10 have been removed, with a new spot salary of £24,546 (£13.45 per hour).  

 

  • Grade 3: Scale Points 10 and 11 have been removed, with the minimum scale point starting at SP12.  

 

  • Grade 3: Scale Point 13 has changed from a contribution point to a substantive point enabling automatic, annual incremental progression for all Grade 3 colleagues.  

 

  • Grade 4: Scale Points 12 and 13 have been removed, with the minimum scale point starting at SP14.  

 

  • Grade 4: Scale Point 17 has changed from a contribution point to a substantive point enabling automatic, annual incremental progression for all Grade 4 colleagues up to SP17.  

 

  • Grade 5: SP17 has been removed, with the minimum scale point starting at SP18 and automatic, annual incremental progression for all Grade 5 colleagues up to SP22. 

Is this a permanent change to the pay structure?

Yes, this is a permanent change to the Pay & Grading structure.

I am Grade 3 and am paid at sp10 / sp11, will I automatically increment to the next point of the grade?

Yesas these points are no longer part of the Grade 3 scale, salaries will be uplifted to SP12 and you will increment to SP13 on December 1, 2026. 

I am Grade 4 and am paid at sp16, will I increment to the next point of the grade?

Yes, salaries at sp16 on grade 4 will be uplifted to SP17 which is the substantive scale point maximum.  

I am Grade 5 and am paid at sp17, will I automatically increment to the next point of the grade?

Yes, as this point is no longer part of the Grade 5 scale, salaries will be uplifted to SP18 and thereafter you will increment on 1 December each year until you reach the substantive scale point maximum. 

I am currently work part-time, will my incremented salary be pro-rated?

Yescolleagues’ new salaries will be pro-rated in their new scale points in the normal way. 

Will I still increment as normal if my salary is uplifted to sp12 (Grade 3), sp14 (Grade 4), sp18 (Grade 5)

Yesincremental progression will remain however the anniversary date for incremental progression will change to December each year, until you reach the substantive scale maximum.

If I am not affected by any of the changes detailed above, will my increment date remain the same?

Yes, if your increment date is not changed as part of this exercise, and you are not at the substantive scale point maximum, your increment date will remain the same. 

I was due to increment in December 2025; will I receive another increment then?

No, where further incremental progression is available within the grade, you will receive your next increment on 1 December 2026. 

I am now on the penultimate contribution point of my Grade – will I receive an increment?

Nofurther contribution points can only be achieved through the Rewarding Contribution round. 

Will my maternity/adoption/paternity pay be recalculated on the uplifted amount?

Yesany enhanced maternity/adoption/paternity pay for the period from 1 December 2025 will be recalculated taking your higher salary into account.  

I am paid via timesheets; will I need to resubmit these to claim the higher amount?

No, our payroll system will automatically recalculate your pay based on hours worked.

What is the effective date?

December 2025.

You can find the details of your current spinal point in the left-hand column under the Details section of your payslip.
