Join Small Change Big Games for some nibbles, a glass of wine, guest speakers and an evening looking at the relationship between the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games 50p and Roman coins depicting games and festivals.

Small Change, Big Games is a project that looks at the history of coinage and its role in sports, politics, religion and history. London 2012's collectable coins brought commemorative coinage into the public consciousness, but it has been around for much longer.

The Hunterian and University of Glasgow are exploring the history of coinage in society with help from PhD students Sarah Graham and Jennifer Hilder. Looking at four themes - religion, politics, history and sport - Sarah and Jennifer have delved into how coins are created and which events are immortalised.
