The University of Glasgow has renewed its agreement with its partner Nankai University, on the operation of its Confucius Institute.

On 13 January, the University of Glasgow renewed its agreement with its partner Nankai University on the operation of its Confucius Institute. At the virtual signing ceremony, Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, Principal of the University of Glasgow, expressed his thanks for Nankai University's ongoing support for the Confucius Institute's operations. Professor Cao Xuetao, President of Nankai University, explained that he saw the Confucius Institute as a bridge for the growing collaboration between the two universities.

The year 2021 marks a decade since the establishment of the Confucius Institute. Over this time the institute has delivered Chinese language instruction for staff and students at the university as well as for the wider community. The institute has also continued to organize a range of events to encourage engagement with Chinese culture and society.

The agreement is both a reaffirmation of the joint commitment to cultural activities and teaching programmes, and a blueprint for further collaboration and knowledge exchange. It marks a new stage in the development of the Confucius Institute and one that heralds continued and mutually beneficial collaboration.
At the end of the ceremony, Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli said: ‘We remain ambitious about the strategic relationship between our two universities and what more this can achieve. Nankai remains a key partner for Glasgow and we look forward to continued cooperation over the Confucius Institute, the Joint Graduate School, and our broader range of collaborative projects.’
