Short Description

Education in Practice is where educational theory and practice combine. Key educational themes are pursued across each of the four years with increasing demand and complexity as the degree progresses. Education in Practice 2B presents the work of key philosophers in education to explore the underpinning principles of education and how these are actioned in practice. This course engages students in collaborative learning activities to support their engagement with professional learning and practice.

Assessment

This course will be assessed by means of an assignment which demonstrates the student's understanding of how educational philosophies relate to child development and underpin practice.

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to introduce the work of key philosophers in education to extend student knowledge and understanding of the social and emotional domain of learning. Student will use this knowledge to explore and reflect on education in practice based on the decisions teachers make when planning learning experiences for children.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Explore educational philosophies in relation to child development

2. Examine how educational philosophies impact pedagogical perspectives

3. Evaluate how educational philosophies underpin education in practice and influence teacher identity and professional practice

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment. Students must have an 80% attendance at lectures and seminars.
