Assessment

Assessment

Performance during continuous observation by field professionals will be formalised in a school experience report. The school experience report will be provided by the principal teacher or faculty head of the placement school. The report will be graded satisfactory or unsatisfactory.

Due to the early stage of teacher development the report format is of a reduced focus. Future years of school placement use the national standard report format.

Reassessment

In accordance with the University's Code of Assessment reassessments are normally set for all courses which do not contribute to the honours classifications. For non honours courses, students are offered reassessment in all or any of the components of assessment if the satisfactory (threshold) grade for the overall course is not achieved at the first attempt. This is normally grade D3 for undergraduate students, and grade C3 for postgraduate students. Exceptionally it may not be possible to offer reassessment of some coursework items, in which case the mark achieved at the first attempt will be counted towards the final course grade. Any such exceptions are listed below in this box.

Course Aims

This course aims to provide a first introduction to teaching technical subjects and aspects of the secondary school technologies curriculum. It aims to give students a realistic experience of the role of the teacher and the practice of technical education. This is a formative and experiential course which serves as an induction for future periods of school experience within the programme. The course seeks to allow students to take their first steps into teaching within a supportive and developmental context.

This course supports the achievement of all elements of the Standard for Initial Teacher Education.
