Short Description

This course focuses on helping students to make connections between their practice experience and relevant theoretical ideas.

Timetable

■ 16 Sessions of 3-hour inputs

■ 450 practice hours in the broad field of community development

■ 80 hours of self-directed reflective practice

These hours are required by the Community Learning and Development Standards Council for Scotland to enable students to gain professional endorsement.

Assessment

1. 2000 word assignment (50%)

2. The student will be observed in a community development practice situation (25%)

3. The student will do a verbal presentation of a community map (25%)

Course Aims

To enable the student to apply the community development process in a range of settings.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

The students will be able to:

Determine appropriate strategies, models and theories to affect social change in a particular community context

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

80% attendance

Each element of the course assessment must be passed

Students must successfully pass the practice placement element of the course (450 hours of community development practice and 80 hours of self-reflective practice) in which they demonstrate achievement of the Community Learning and Development Standards Council for Scotland Competences and the National Occupation Standards for Community Development Work
