The Friends of Glasgow University Library invite you to join a virtual tour of Stationers’ Hall, London, on Monday 9 May at 6.30pm

Stationers’ Hall is the home of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Makers of Newspapers.  Founded in 1403 as a guild for the humble craftsmen who turned out handmade books in the shadow of St Paul’s Cathedral, the Company grew to become the powerhouse of England’s publishing industry in Tudor and Stuart times.  Not even the loss of the Hall in the Great Fire of London could prevent the inexorable rise of the Stationers, with the present Hall rising Phoenix-like from the ashes of its predecessor in 1670.  It was here that the law of copyright was born, with the Stationers’ register recording the publication and ownership of all the original printed texts of Shakespeare’s plays and poetry.

On the virtual tour, we will visit this magnificent 17th Century livery hall, examine some of the treasures in its archive and meet a few of the colourful characters who frequented its precincts

Your guide will be Ian Fagelson. Ian is a top-rated official City of London Guide

If you are interested in joining the tour, please send your email address to fredatuck7@gmail.com and the link will be sent to you
