Disability equality
The University of Glasgow has a published Disability Equality Scheme (and accompanying Action Plan) which reflects the fact that we have long seen inclusiveness as fundamental to our strategy and identity. We recognise that this means increasing opportunities not only for disabled students but also for disabled people who want to work with us or engage with our community and facilities in other ways (see: Equality and Diversity Unit)
Key features include:
- new and refurbished buildings designed to facilitate access
- IT developments that bring new tools to support disabled people in learning and work
- improved policies, which are developed with conscious regard to the perspectives of disabled people, such as our staff recruitment policy which has brought us the Two Ticks symbol, and our Equality Policy for participation in the forthcoming Research Assessment Exercise
- a Campus Liaison Group meaning disabled students and staff can speak directly with our Estates and Buildings experts
- a network of Departmental Disability Advisers supported by an enhanced Student Disability Service for informed local support for disabled students
- we have recognised the value of staff training to develop an understanding of, and responsiveness to, the perspectives of disabled people.
