T2G: Transition to Glasgow

A unique course designed to prepare you to join UofG and start your studies
T2G is a two-week pre-sessional (i.e. before semester starts!) that runs from Monday 24th August to Friday 4th September, just before Freshers’ Week, that's designed to help you settle into life and study at UofG as a new student.
It's open to all new undergraduates, and it’s a great way to meet other new students and get a taste of university-level learning before you start your courses in September. You can either take part online or in person, so there's no need to be in Glasgow yet to join.
On the course, you’ll attend core classes (larger lectures) and choose two electives classes (smaller seminar/tutorial groups) and you'll also get the chance to join some social events and meet staff from Services, teams, and groups from across the University.
If you complete the course and submit an assignment for one of your elective classes, you'll also earn credit for the Academic Writing Skills Programme (AWSP) meaning you'll have completed one of your required courses before the semester even begins!

What will I do in T2G?
- You’ll have some large lectures in a core module
- You'll work in small groups (seminars/tutorials) on subjects that you choose (your electives)
- You’ll have the opportunity to engage in social events and meet staff from important service, teams, and groups
- You’ll complete an assignment, which counts as credit towards one of your compulsory first-year modules (the Academic Writing Skills Programme)
The two weeks of the course will be split up into different modules. Your core module – the one that everyone takes – will run on Mondays and Fridays. You’ll be in some large lectures, and we’ll look at core topics relevant to your broad subject area.
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, you’ll be in your two elective modules. These will be modules that you pick. In the electives, you’ll be in small groups working on particular topics and looking at areas of discussion.
You’ll also have access to a wealth of what’s called asynchronous materials. These materials will be there for you to study in advance of an elective class or to help you prepare, for example, for your elective assignment. You can work through these yourself.
And, you’ll get to be involved (if you want!) with some social events and attend a fair with representatives from key Student Services like the Disability Service, Careers Service, Student Support Officers, and the Library, and other groups like the Students' Representatives Council and UofG Sport . Think of this as a mini Freshers’ Week for T2G students only, in advance of the bigger University Freshers’ Week!
Should I do T2G?
If you’re a new undergraduate student joining us in September, then yes!
T2G is designed specifically for you as a new UofG undergraduate, so you’ll study alongside other students joining us for the first time.
You’ll need to be available and willing to take part in a full course of study from Monday 24th August to Friday 4th September 2026. You can attend online or in-person, so you won’t need to be physically in Glasgow but you will need to give the time to attend the classes and complete the coursework.
If you're unable to attend but would still like to access the core course materials in your own time, you can also select this option on the registration of interest form and we'll get back in touch at the start of the course with more information on how to access the materials.
T2G isn’t compulsory, but we hope that you’ll join us!
