Wildcat Stage Productions

This collection includes contracts, press cuttings and programmes.

This left-wing music theatre company was established by former 7:84 members Dave Anderson, David MacLennan and Ferelith Lean in September 1978. Wildcat followed a similar pattern to 7:84, touring around Scotland and adopting an agit-prop performance style. Dead Liberty, co-written by Anderson and MacLennan, was about the miners strike in the mid 1980s and is indicative of their work.

The derelict theatre at The Pleasance, Edinburgh, Scotland, was restored and opened as the Wildcat Theatre Complex in 1980. It was used as a venue for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Wildcat Stage Productions continued to perform but the withdrawal of its Scottish Arts Council funding in the early 1990s led to a more limited production schedule. The company has now ceased production.
