This course helps students' skills in planning and executing public performances through individual work with a vocal or instrumental teacher in the student's chosen specialism, and through the preparation of a group performance, including aspects of stagecraft and presentation

Reassessments are normally available for all courses, except those which contribute to the Honours classification. For non Honours courses, students are offered reassessment in all or any of the components of assessment if the satisfactory (threshold) grade for the overall course is not achieved at the first attempt. This is normally grade D3 for undergraduate students and grade C3 for postgraduate students. Exceptionally it may not be possible to offer reassessment of some coursework items, in which case the mark achieved at the first attempt will be counted towards the final course grade. Any such exceptions for this course are described below. 

The course aims to:

■ equip students to perform repertoire commensurate with the student's level and range of musicianship.

■ engage students with the preparation and management of public performances.

■ foster in students critical listening skills allowing them to evaluate their own performances and those of their peers

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Identify and select repertoire suited to the student's instrument/s or voice.

■ Realise the chosen works effectively.

■ Evaluate performances by listening and responding critically to their own and those of their peers.

■ Take part in the planning and rehearsing of collaborative musical ensembles.

■ Identify and deploy basic aspects of stagecraft in performing.

■ Identify and deploy administration and management skills appropriate for the repertoire and performance context.

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
