Summary

This course provides practical approaches to drawing and painting and is a follow-on course for Creative drawing and painting 2. However, it is still suitable for both beginners and students with some previous experience. Through a variety of demonstrations and lessons you will develop your practical skills using a range of materials and different painting techniques including acrylics and oils, gouache, and watercolour.  

Please note materials are not provided, but a suggested materials list will be given ahead of the class.  New students are very welcome.  

Areas you'll explore include: 

  • The process of drawing and painting, furthering developing your technical and visual skills required in art making. 
  • Methods to improve your awareness, insight, and perception when art making. 
  • How to further your understanding of a variety of mediums, such as pencil, charcoal, and acrylic paint. As well as surfaces such as paper, board, and canvas 

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to: 

  • Create more complex artworks through an improved understanding of drawing and painting processes. 
  • Practically demonstrate how to use perspective and create structured compositions using the technical and visual skills through a variety of different drawing and painting techniques. 

Who is this course for?

Anyone who has an interest in learning to draw and paint as well as those with some prior experience.

Qualifications/credits

This is a non-credit class, so would not contribute to any qualifications. 

Mode of study

A mixture of practical demonstrations, set exercises and guided study

Prospects

Although the course is no-credit bearing, it is still an ideal introduction to the subject.
