Introduction to case studies in psychology

Case studies of individuals experiencing rare events or conditions are used within Psychology to understand the human mind and behaviour. However, academics have debated how useful this approach is for understanding ‘typical’ human behaviour. By examining significant case studies in Psychology, including the case of “Genie” and “Patient H.M.”, we will examine the advantages and disadvantages of using a case study method, as well as exploring the ethical issues involved.
