Bio: Dr Andreas Kern traces money in places where it is not supposed to be or simply does not belong. A central theme of his research is to study how money corrupts policymakers to put financial markets to work for political gain and not for the greater good. Analysing pathways characterising the dynamic interaction between politics and finance, his research aims to decipher critical political forces driving global financial markets. He is the author of numerous articles in leading scientific journals and advises policymakers on designing policy programs and initiatives on financial market reform and monetary institution building. He is currently a faculty member at the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University. Before joining Georgetown University in 2010, Andreas worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for European Integration at Freie Universität Berlin. He earned his Ph.D. in Political Economy from Freie Universität Berlin and holds an M.Sc. in Economics from Ludwig Maximilians Universität in Munich.
