We are pleased to welcome Mark Wong who has joined the School as a Lecturer in Social and Public Policy. Mark completed his PhD in Social Policy at the University of Edinburgh and his work explored the significance of technologies and digital connections for disengaged young people (“hidden youth”) in Hong Kong and Scotland. His research focuses on disengaged youth and digital society. He is particularly interested in the role and significance of online social networks in young people’s lives and how technologies influence human connections in the “digital age”.  Mark has also been involved in several research projects working with digital research methods, including Twitter data analysis, data linkage, and bibliometrics.

Prior to joining the University, he was part of a research project funded by the European Research Council at the University of Edinburgh. He worked on mapping institutional networks using data science and social network analysis. Through the project, he contributed to innovating and combining digital and qualitative research methods in social science investigations. He was a Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI, Cambridge, UK) in March 2017 and was the co-convenor of Social Network Analysis in Scotland research group. He has a range of experience in teaching social policy, research design, network analysis and visualisations.
