Employability

David Muir Speakers Series 2017

Former Senior Obama Administration Staff address students at the University of Glasgow

The John Smith Centre organises and hosts a series of employability events for students throughout the academic year.

These events bring high-profile public service practitioners to the University, to share their experiences and career pathways, in order to inspire and inform the next generation about the benefits of a career in public service.

Previous employability speakers include Liz Allen and Adewale Adeyemo. Liz Allen was formerly the Deputy Communications Director and Deputy Personal Assistant to President Obama, and also held a series of roles at the U.S. State Department and in the office of Vice-President Joe Biden. Adewale Adeyemo is former Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council, and served as President Obama's senior international economic advisor.

In November 2019 the John Smith Centre hosted an employability session with former Treasury Adviser, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer and Strictly Come Dancing star, the Rt Hon Ed Balls.
