Launch of the 2019 Parliamentary Internship Programme
Issued: Tue, 06 Nov 2018 13:12:00 GMT
The John Smith Centre is delighted to announce the launch of the 2019 Parliamentary Internship Programme.
3rd and 4th year undergraduate students from the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow are invited to apply for eight internship positions based in the constituency offices of host MSPs from the SNP, Scottish Labour, Scottish Conservatives and the Scottish Greens. We are thrilled that the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, will be participating in the 2019 Programme as a host MSP.
The internships have been made possible thanks to generous support from the Scottish Government and Community Trade Union and will commence in January 2019. Interns will work for 7 hours per week for 10 weeks and will be paid above the living wage. Interns will support their host MSPs and their office staff in all aspects of constituency office work, including casework, research, secretarial tasks and publicity. There will also be the opportunity to shadow host MSPs at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.
Now in its third year, the Parliamentary Internship Programme stemmed from a wish to create hands-on learning opportunities for students to engage in frontline public service roles, and to provide a platform from which young people can examine and evaluate the role of public servants and elected representatives today. The programme enables students to develop a range of workplace relevant skills and an appreciation for the value of a career in public service.
Applications close on 15 November 2018. Please visit the Internship Hub website to find out more and apply!
